Jing En was called to the Singapore Bar in 2019. He began his career at one of Singapore’s oldest law firms, cutting his teeth under the mentorship of respected senior practitioners.

 

Jing En has gained significant experience appearing and making arguments before all levels of Court. Additionally, Jing En has experience in arbitration, mediation and conciliation.

 

A firm believer in access to representation, Jing En serves as volunteer counsel under the Law Society Pro Bono Services Criminal Legal Aid Scheme. In this capacity, he has helped all his clients obtain either acquittals or sentences lower than those argued for by the Prosecution.

Areas Of Practice And Experience

Civil and Commercial Disputes

  • Acted for a Singapore construction company in a 7-day High Court trial, in which the company’s counterclaim was substantially allowed and the plaintiff’s claim was dismissed in its entirety.
  • Acted for a Singapore company and its director in a District Court trial, in which the company’s claim was allowed in full and the defendant’s counterclaims and third-party claims were dismissed.
  • Acted for a French national in his claim for unpaid salary and bonuses against his former employers.
  • Acted in the successful defence of a Singapore trading company against a claim brought in the District Court against it by a freight forwarding company.
  • Acted for the Singapore branch of an overseas bank in its successful application for summary judgment in the High Court.
  • Acting for a Singapore company in an international arbitration initiated by a Chinese company in the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
  • Acting for eight defendants (six individual and two corporate) in a High Court action commenced by the individual defendants’ former employers involving claims in tort, contract and intellectual property.

 

Criminal Litigation

  • Acted as volunteer counsel for various individual defendants under the Law Society Pro Bono Services Criminal Legal Aid Scheme, all of whom either were acquitted or received sentences lower than those submitted for by the Prosecution.
  • Acted for a Singapore individual charged under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act. Successfully obtained an acquittal at the conclusion of trial.
  • Acted for employees of a Singapore jewellery store charged with GST-related offences.
  • Acted for various individuals charged with driving-related offences.
  • Acting for a Singapore commercial diving company charged under the Workplace Safety and Health Act.

 

Family Law

  • Acted for various individuals in divorce, probate and estate matters.
