Royce is a Senior Associate in the dispute resolution team with a focus on complex litigation and arbitration.
He has represented clients in a wide spectrum of high-value and complex contentious and non-contentious matters spanning construction, maritime and shipping, civil and commercial, fraud, and asset recovery.
Royce frequently appears as counsel and co-counsel across all levels of the Malaysian Courts and has extensive experience in both domestic and international arbitrations under leading institutional rules including the ICC, AIAC, PAM and SIAC.
Royce graduated from University of London with an LL.B. (Hons) in 2018, obtained his Certificate in Legal Practice in 2019, and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2021.
Fluent in English, Malay, Mandarin, and Cantonese, Royce is able to engage effectively with a broad range of clients and stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

- Acted for the owners of the Oriental Dragon vessel in proceedings against Asia Capital Commodities Trade Sdn Bhd in Worldport v ACC. Successfully obtained leave from the Federal Court to appeal on several novel and complex questions of law concerning admiralty jurisdiction in Malaysia in relation to a financial claim arising from alleged casino-related liabilities.
- Successfully represented an Australian tourism company in a breach of contract claim worth AU$ 2,000,000 against a Malaysian vessel builder, as reported in LA Leisure Pty Ltd (mendakwa sebagai Pemegang Amanah kepada LAT Unit Trust) v Sabrecraft Marine Sdn Bhd & Ors [2025] MLJU 51.
- Acted for a Singaporean palm oil exporter against an application to set aside and suspend a US$ 17,000,000 PORAM arbitral award rendered in its favour.
- Represented a Hong Kong-based vessel owner against claims of approximately RM 8,000,000 brought against its Vessel in a writ in rem action.
- Represented a Spanish recycling company in an AIAC arbitration proceedings concerning disputes involving outstanding payments.
- Represented a public-listed construction company in a dispute against a dissolved Korean subcontractor arising out of the construction of a hospital project in West Malaysia, valued at over RM 160,000,000.
- Represented a timber extraction company against an application to set aside an arbitral award worth over RM 200,000,000 rendered in its favour.
- Represented a public-listed construction company in a dispute against the public authorities over breach of contract in respect of construction of houses under the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Programme worth over RM 456,000,000.
- Represented multiple developers in construction adjudication proceedings as well as the ensuing court proceedings to enforce, stay and set aside the adjudication decision pending disposal of arbitration, for example in High Rise Millennium Sdn Bhd v Pelangi Hartajaya Sdn Bhd and another case [2022] MLJU 1672 and Charter Built Construction Sdn Bhd v Amalan Setar (M) Sdn Bhd and another case [2024] MLJU 1002.
- Represented a television programme producer and broadcaster in an action against a digital terrestrial television service provider in a breach of contract dispute worth over RM 700,000,000.
- Assisted the Malaysian Bar in its application for judicial review challenging the Attorney General’s decision to discontinue criminal proceedings against Dato’ Seri Zahid Hamidi.
- Successfully represented a high-profile individual in obtaining a restraining order against a suspected arson offender.
- Defended a hypermarket against a claim by the Royal Malaysia Customs Department against a charge for alleged evasion of duty.
- Successfully represented a celebrated lieutenant general in remand proceedings.
- Assisted in defending a major cryptocurrency exchange in a user’s claim for forfeited profits arising from market manipulation.
- Assisted a Singapore construction company in pursuing claims against its employer for unpaid work done amounting to SG$ 8,000,000.
- Advised a port operator on potential legal actions against an international container and logistics service provider for damages suffered arising from a fire caused by the cargo in one of the service provider’s container. Disputes would be referred to arbitration under the AIAC Arbitration Rules 2023.
- Advised an American financial institution on potential legal actions to recover over RM 44,000,000 worth of physical assets destroyed by fire at a security company’s premises. Disputes would be referred to arbitration under the ICC Arbitration Rules 2021.
- Advised a leading Takaful operator in Malaysia on potential legal actions against one of the country’s biggest Islamic bank over breaches of the Bancatakaful Agreement.
- Advised a container terminal on potential legal actions against one of the world’s largest container shipping company for breaches of a lease.
- Advised a Singapore-based Public Relations Company on potential legal actions against a Labuan-based cryptocurrency broker over breaches of a Service Agreement.
- Advised a global energy and marine solutions provider regarding its potential exposure and chances in arbitration concerning the construction of an offshore oil rig under an EPCIC Contract.
- Advised a developer on setting aside an adjudication decision over disputes arising from the construction of a contact lens manufacturing facility.
