Acting against an insurer in a disputed claim over loss cargo arising from a piracy incident in the waters off the coast of Tanjung Berakit, Indonesia
We are acting for a Singapore company which has commenced a Singapore High Court action against its insurer for refusing to cover the loss of gas-oil cargo valued at approximately USD 1,059,581.60.
The cargo was to be shipped from Singapore to Karabela Port, Timor-Leste. During the course of the voyage, the vessel carrying the cargo was hijacked by pirates in the waters off the coast of Tanjung Berakit, Indonesia.
The disputed claim involved allegations that the piracy event was staged. The case is currently ongoing.
